Description

Los Angeles County Small Business Rent Relief Project supports small businesses located within the County that experienced financial hardship due to COVID-19 and that are in need of rental assistance for unpaid rent to continue to operate or to be able to reopen as allowed by law during the crisis. Grants of $5,000 to $40,000 per business, based on past due rent, will be awarded for eligible businesses with 9 or fewer full-time equivalent employees.

Per Internal Revenue Service guidance, these grants are taxable.

Definition of eligible business:

  • Business with less than 9 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees (40 hours = 1 FTE) (verified by Q3 2020 IRS Form 941)
  • Located in Unincorporated LA County
  • Business must have less than $1 million (verified by 2020 tax return)
  • Business must be open at time of submittal (verified by Business License)
  • Been in business on or before June 22, 2019 at the same brick and mortar location (verified by lease agreement)
  • Must certify and demonstrate that they have experienced financial hardship due to COVID-19 with a minimum of a 25% reduction in revenue (verified by Statement of Impact)

Excluded businesses: See list on website

Minimum grant amount: $5,000

Maximum grant amount: up to $40,000

Type of assistance: Grant for Small Business Rent Relief

NOTE: Only one application per Qualified Small Business Tenant (QSBT) will be entertained.  Additionally, only one application per principal with 20% or more shared ownership.
